Arabic Junior Open 2016, Kairo - Bericht Igor Allinckx

Wednesday August 31: At 17:30 Ambre played the Plate Finale and won in 3 sets, 11/7-11/6-12/10. Coached by Roman (see Pic) she delivered a strong Squash against a good opponent Nagham Ahmed Nageeb. So she is 17th, having lost only to the Finalist (but pity on the first round). Roman is 5th, having as well lost only to the Finalist. So, we can see the glass half empty or half full, but this stays anyway as a very interesting experience.

Roman finished 5th at the Cairo Arab Junior Open. Ready to fight he went to the court... and received a WO as his opponent did not show up. This seems to be the trend down here. When players are not happy with their performance or final position they just give up. OK, anyway a rank 5th for Roman. For him, the lost Quarter Finale Match is the lesson to be learned: When it's hot, air conditioned court or a much better condition are helpful.

Ambre went ahead on her Quest to the Plate finale and defeated Hana Ahmed Ismail in 3, 11/9-11/5-11/6 (Picture)

Tomorrow is the last day of the tournament, Ambre plays the Plate Finale at 17:30. But before that, we will all enjoy a Cairo Museum and Old Cairo visit.

Hopp Schwizz!

Both Ambre at 16:30 and Roman at 19:30 made their way against Egyptian opponents with 3-0 wins.

Ambre reaches the Plate semi finale with a 11/8 - 11/5 - 11/3 win over Sama Khaled Fahkry. Tomorrow she will be playing another Egyptian (anyway in the girls U 15 draw there were all Egyptians except Ambre), Hana Ahmed Ismail at 18:30.

Roman displayed a strong squash to beat Ahmed Mahmoud Kamel in straight 11/3 - 11/1 -11/6... Yes the court was air conditioned this time. So Tuesday will be the last match for Roman, shooting for place 5 against Shady Mohamed El Sherbiny at 8:30. We don't know if he is a relative of Nour el Sherbiny... These Egyptians are full of surprises.

So, as it looks like both matches will be at the same time 18:30 in 2 different locations. This means for both no coaching and only one of their 2 supporters :-). It's a great experience for all.

---2. Bericht---

WO for Ambre today, her opponent did not show up. She'll play tomorrow. Roman found it difficult to play on a non air conditionned court at 30 plus degrees. Lost 0-3, good experience anyway. Playing tomorrow for places 5-8.

---1. Bericht---

In the Girls u15 Ambre Allinckx felt into the Egyptian trap in the first round. A surprising draw made her compete against a very strong Ganna Wael Safy. Even locals did not understood the logic of having 2 of the best players meeting at round 1... Anyway, Ambre got the first 12-10 then lost 5-11 and 6-11, came close at 10-10 in the fourth but lost then 10-12. A very disappointed Ambre will now go for the plate, place 17th.

In the Boys u19 Roman Allinckx had a strong start. He defeated Saudi Arabia palyer Nasser Mohamed Alhamzi in a clear 11-0, 11-0, 11-1 score. Not one single mistake this time for Roman. In the quarter he will play Egyptian Ali Mohamed Hassan.

So, Swiss hopes ware now on Roman shoulders. Hopp Schwizz!!
